The Trouble with Tomatoes, The Sequel

Yeah, still having trouble with tomatoes. But I have good news and bad news.  Let’s start with the good news.  Actually, it’s great news.  Despite all my worrying and woes the tomatoes survived their early start and the sunburn they suffered being planted on such a hot week. I was so worried about them while I was in Scotland but when I came home they were getting lots of new growth and were filling out from their earlier spindly frame.  It was such a relief! June 3rd, just a few days after we got back, our first tomato appeared! Then day by day, more tomatoes appeared and I thought that…

    I Have a Secret

I have a secret.  It’s not a torrid, juicy secret.  It’s just something that I have not shared with everyone.   I am doing the Whole 30. As a matter of fact, I’m day 25. Less than a week to go. When I first heard about this craziness, I thought, why would anyone subject themselves to this?  It sounds like torture! No bread for a month? Are you kidding me? No cheese? Who is this sadist? The Trouble With Tomatoes

Tomatoes are one of those things that you just shouldn’t even bother buying in the winter. They just plain suck. Two years ago a friend of mine gifted us with 15 to 20 tomato plants.  We weren’t prepared and since we didn’t have any money invested we just dug a big old hole and planted them all. It was good ground so they did really well. I was hooked. Last year I started my own tomatoes from seed. They did very well.  I was jealous though because my mom had picked up a plant from the nursery that was three times the size of mine and therefore produced earlier. I…

500 Days to 50 is Here!

Whew! I made it.  I am so excited! Starting a blog was a challenge for me but AS OF TODAY, I have 500 days before turning 50.  Thank you for being here! I honestly thought that I would have my act together by the time I turned 40.  In reality, it’s all gone south since then. I have multiple health issues that I am convinced are fixable.  My house is falling apart all around me (also fixable). I have way too many hobbies (not fixable, not giving any of them up).    I’m determined to learn how to utilize my time to its fullest in these 500 days. HEALTHY LIVING 500…

Don’t Be Afraid to Go Gray

Going gray.  Are you considering this?  Letting go of coloring your hair, dealing with roots and spending the money and the time necessary to keep your “look?” I was.  In addition to the cost, my hair felt like it was simply sick and tired of me abusing it.  I have naturally curly hair that tends to be dry anyway and the wiry quality of gray hair didn’t make it any better. A while back, I noticed this new trend of young women choosing to color their hair gray.  Now, it doesn’t really look like natural gray hair, but it’s gray nonetheless.  But who am I to buck fashion? Actually, my…
